Going to a Music Festival Alone? 7 Tips to Meeting New People While Traveling Alone

Are you a free spirit looking to branch out and do some traveling this year but afraid to do it alone? Do you bring up awesome trip ideas to your friends only to have them tell you how "broke" they are?

I've been there before and I'm here to tell you, you can spend a lifetime waiting on broke friends to get their financial house in order to travel with you. So stop holding yourself back on account of your fiscally challenged friends. You can go alone and have an amazing time.

You'll even meet some new people in New Orleans or meet people online that are going to the festival and form a meet-up, traveling alone doesn't have to mean being all alone.

Here are 7 secrets that work for traveling any concert or music festival alone when you'd rather have company:

Stay in a good location
Staying in a hotel near the Ernest Morial Convention Center is your safest and best bet for meeting people. You'll be super close to all of the hot spots, close to the French Quarter, Superdome, and you won't have to pay crazy cab fees or rent a car coming in from some place like Metairie.

Meet Online
There are many free online communities where you can connect with other solo travelers. There are plenty of wonderful people you can connect with and have a meet-up with once you're all in New Orleans. It doesn't have to be a one-on-one meeting, either. Invite a group of people. If you're into fitness, create a meet-up and have an "exercise in the park" event at Woldenberg Park or find 10 people to meet for lunch. You'll meet people who share your interests and have new companions for the weekend.

Meet on the Plane
Strike up a conversation with those waiting in your airport terminal and you're bound to find someone going to the Festival. If you find that person doesn't fit your personality, politely excuse yourself. If you're sitting next to the person on the plane, you're stuck for a few hours so just make the most of the situation and keep it moving.

Meet in the #Hotel
At check-in, there will be a ton of people waiting to get into their rooms. Strike up a #conversation while in line, if you dig that person's energy, agree to meet up later. Exchange cell phone numbers or email addresses.

Meet at a #Lounge or restaurant
If you spy a person having lunch or drinks alone, ask if you can join him or her. Talk about what acts you're both interested in seeing and if they plan on attending any of the free (and not so free) mid-day parties. You may end up going together!

Meet at an Empowerment Seminar
I love Empowerment Seminars for several reasons but here's two:

1) they're free - free is rarely ever bad
2) they're wonderful opportunities to share ideas and meet people with great minds.

Let your voice and ideas be heard during these Empowerment Seminars. You may offer a fresh perspective people in the room have never considered. Meeting someone in an Empowerment Seminar will leave you with tons to talk about.

You cannot expect to meet new friends any where if you're scowling at them. Smiles are infectious and bring your energy level up. Smiling makes your face look youthful and you radiate joy which will attract more positive people to you.

There is a theme here in all of these tips, do you know what they are? Have you detected it yet? All of these tips require you to communicate. Forget everything you were taught when you were younger, talk to strangers!

Will Rogers said it best, "A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet." So go out there and meet some new friends, you may find a new travel buddy for life.
